What happens when a Muslim learns he has been deceived?

                                                                Dallas M. Roark, Ph.D.

There are lots of people who are leaving Islam because they are learning things about Islam and the prophet of Islam that they can no longer believe. I have collected a number of responses from former Muslims from various web sites. One Muslim writer claims all these testimonies were manufactured by Christians and his opinion is that no one would leave Islam. This Muslim is like so many others who are deniers, denying the facts of history, denying the terrible things that Islam has done to women, denying the terrible act of human slavery, denying the truth of the Bible, the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, denying the terrible things that Mohammed did in his life time.
However, when the truth is known it is difficult to continue living the falsehood.

By Abdullah Qasim, I was born in a devout Muslim family belonging to Sunni sect of Islam. I come from an Islamic country but currently I live in a western country. During every Ramadan I used to faithfully fast. During my University study, one of my subjects was Islamic Studies. My professor of the subject glorified Islam and taught all the good deeds of the prophet of Islam. I was taught that Quran is the perfect and the best book sent by God. Islam should be dominant and supersede all the religions of the world. However I realized that he never mentioned why the prophet was so violent and killed so many people. He never mentioned the numerous contradictions in the Quran. He was blowing the trumpet of how other people were converting to Islam but he was in a state of denial (just like most Muslims) with the fact that many Muslims were leaving Islam. By  Rohana,   “An Indian Muslim woman wrote, “At some point of my adult life I decided to read the Quran in English and also read Islam’s history, Hadith and Sira. I was disgusted, and decided never to marry Muslim.... Read the whole story here

By DeeAnna,   “...they told me Islam was all about peace and love and that Muhammad was some great prophet of peace. they praised him as though he were pro women, They basically made him into a god......But they did not tell me about his evil actions and when I began to learn of them and wanted to discuss them because I still wanted to believe Islam was good and perhaps there was some good explanation for why Muhammad would commit such evils but I quickly learned that to dare question Muhammad is to be demonized threatened abused etc. And they will see them selves as doing good and so I began to study and learn all the more, after 5 or 6 years of research and trying so hard to prove you all wrong all I have found is that you were right all along.”   Read the whole story. By Free Spirit,    “I hope other women reading this will take my story into consideration, if they are thinking about converting to Islam and/or marrying a Muslim. This is a warning for you. Read the Koran, read the articles and stories on FFI. Don’t be foolish and don’t make the same mistake I and so many other women (both western and eastern) have made. Don’t allow a child to be brought into this world by a husband who won’t even be a father other than simply to say he is.”Read the whole story here.

By Almost Aisha    “I first noticed how some of the information that had been given to me before converting to Islam was slowly revealed as inaccurate, without much excuse or explanation for why it had not been fully revealed before. For example, I had been told outright that women had the right to divorce in Islam (one of the many rights given to us by Islam, subhanallah). When discussing it after my conversion however, I was told without ceremony that women couldn’t initiate a divorce. I was confused, and they tried to smooth this over by saying that it was “sort of” like a divorce, but worked in a slightly different way… Why, I wondered, didn’t they explain it this way before?

“I was also confused by the authenticity of Hadiths as measured in discussions. I had of course been taught about the collection and classification of Hadiths, and felt the Muslim pride that unlike Christian writings ours remained authentic and unchanged. However, it seemed that in a discussion authenticity was simply measured by the light under which the narration portrayed Islam. Whenever a Hadith went against the picture of Islam being promoted it was said to be “rare”, “questionable”, “fabricated”, or at the very least mistranslated. I was disoriented; I thought Bukhari was the most authentic? Well he was of course, but there were still some weak Hadiths in his collection. The more I asked the more it seemed… “some” meant “a lot” of weak hadiths. When the opposite was true and the narration fit the version of Islam being promoted, the most rare Hadiths were put forward as irrefutable evidence.”  Read the whole story here.

By Zander,  “So I researched more and more and what I found were shocking. They were totally blasphemy, or so I thought and among those results were information about the Quran contradictions and error. I WAS SHOCKED. How could a religion with so many believers have errors and contradictions? Something was wrong. I had my doubts but never thought that the truth was so hurtful. It wasn’t the truth that hurt, it was seeing whatever I believed was a lie that hurt,it was the lies that I had lived my life doing and believing.”  Read the whole story here.

By Komal “When I was in my 6th grade I was unhappy at certain things that I got to know about the way women are treated in Islam. This included the property rights and divorce procedures. But never in my entire life I had known that Muslims actually used to rape prisoners of wars and this was sanctioned by the Prophet.”

“I feel disgusted! I cannot imagine my six year old, or any six year old girl to be married to a 50 year old guy NO matter how religious that person is.”

“I am a woman and I don’t have a “short memory,” as Muhammad said. I am not “deficient in intelligence” either. I have outsmarted many guys in my life. All my life I have studied on scholarship and right now I am perusing a degree again on scholarship. Then how can our prophet say we women have short memory and deficient in intelligence? This is scientifically wrong.”

“Now considering that a girl is raped. Where in the world can she find 4 men to testify in her case? Rape is not a circus that people will be invited to watch. It’s usually done in an isolated place where no one can see. Say a girl was raped and gets pregnant. She needs 4 witnesses to prove she was raped and usually there isn’t even one. But the proof that she had sex out of the wedlock is there in her womb. Then what will happen according to Islamic law? She can’t provide any proof of rape. So she will be accused of adultery and stoned to death. Does this sound just or logical? No it doesn’t - at least to those who have a heart and a brain.”  Read the whole story here.

By “Jane,”     “The Quran I always found hard to take, it was sadistic, but because everyone I knew found it so beautiful I began to think it was me that I was reading it the wrong way. Mohammed, I didn’t dislike, but as hard as I tried to love him there was something holding me back. It was like for every one beautiful Hadith I read there were ten horrendous ones. The deeper I began to dig into the real Islam I found darker and darker things, until I snapped. I hate this man. How did God ever think it was a good idea to send him as a prophet? But I still couldn’t disbelieve.”  Read the  rest of the story here.

By Abdul-Quddus,     “With hindsight, I perceive the quintessential factor sustaining my Islaamic faith to be fear. I had buckled under the coercion. After embracing the notion of a Supreme Being, anxiety ensued while receiving admonishment from Allaah's Book. A substantial amount of aayaat (verses) of the Qur?aan are intimidating threats against your personal well-being”

“Truthfully, I found nothing revealed by Prophet Muhammad that couldn’t be influenced by or plagiarized from existing sources, especially from the Judeo-Christian tradition (Tanakh, Talmud, New testament, apocryphal works). Everything Islaamic could be traced to pre-Islaamic origins, from theology to pilgrimage rites.   Read the rest of the story here.

By Deeana,    “I put some of your challenges before my Islamic friends as though they were my own challenges. They could not dispute them. They merely attacked and demonized me instead. The very people I worked so hard to defend became my enemies. As they demonized me, more and more I began to get angry and the more I saw the truth about Islam the angrier I became.”   Read  the rest of the story here.

By Bewildered,   “You only should be obedient when he is asking you for something that God asked you to do. For Example- there's a hadeeth that says if a woman withholds sex from her husband that the angels will curse her until morning. This hadeeth enraged me! I would call my mom and tell her that it is definitely a fake hadeeth because the prophet would never say such a thing. My mom would dismiss my feelings and ask for forgiveness for me, which made me even angrier. I was outright enraged when I went to one of the Friday sermons and heard the imam talk about this sort of non-sense. I called him all sorts of names and my friends said that he was not that bad. What a stupid excuse! I do not believe these are the teachings of God!” Read the rest of the story here.

By Sabrina,     “Friends, you have your own brains, so use them. How could a prophet marry a 9-year-old girl? How could a prophet have more than 20 wives and concubines but at the same time command his followers to have only 4 wives? Isn't it strange that God permitted Mohammed to have more than 4 wives? Decide for yourself. Make your own investigation. AND USE YOUR BRAINS!
Today I believe in God. But, I'm afraid, Mohammed had nothing to do with God.”  Read the rest of the story here.

By Mohammed Islam,    “My belief changed about 3 years ago, when I was asked about contradictions in the Quran by a non-Muslim. I answered one question then he threw me another, after that another and another and another and so on. Because I was never taught about the negative points, I was blind to them all. After that day, I decided to learn about my religion, ALL of it, not what people said about Islam, but what is authenticated in the Quran and Hadiths. Wow, was I in tears or what. My whole life was torn apart, twisted around, all my life I was thinking that I was a good man and done exactly what Allah has demanded from me and it had just turned out to be a big pack of lies. I studied Islam, inside out; as much as you, I would like to say and for what I found out - I left in a hurry.”  Read the rest of the story here.

By Apostate Success,    “Then one day, at the age of 26, I decided to read the Qur'an so that I could become a "better Muslim." The first three pages alone shocked me with their illogic and obvious contradictions with the constant claim that Allah was the "most merciful" and "most compassionate," but I closed my eyes, gritted my teeth, held on tightly, and pushed ahead with absolute certainty that it would all be explained and would get better. However, it only got worse -- much worse. After reading the Qur'an, I realized that I couldn't possibly endorse Islam as a religion, as a philosophy, as a moral standard, as an ethical code, or even as useful fiction. I determined that these philosophies and this image of Allah could only come from an extremely warped and disturbed person who suffered from an aggregation of the most severe and profound human weaknesses.” Read the rest of the story here.

By Sara,    “Allah show me how I can be like them in Islam. The answer never came. I finished the Quran and could not identify the same God. Could he be different? If Islam is right then Christianity can not be right. Some one is telling a lie here! I would pray to God every night to show me the truth. I was suspicious of Islam now, with all of the hate, judgment, wrath, lies, ungodly life of the prophet, etc. I could not believe the Christian message that I needed a savior, and that was Jesus Christ; God himself! What a strange message. God please show me which one is the truth?”   Read the rest of the story here.

By Abdullah,     “Abdullah was a faithful Muslim. He lived just an hour’s drive from Mecca, prayed in the mosque five times a day, practiced all the Muslim beliefs, and, of course, regularly visited Mecca. Like many Muslims, he was taught that Christians had evil spirits and that he must keep away from them.....One night Abdullah dreamed he was in hell, burning in a blazing fire. The next morning, very worried, he prayed to Allah, ‘I have done everything well; why would I go to hell?’ During the following days he grew increasingly troubled. One night he was sleepless because of fear, when at midnight a bright light lit his room and a voice said, ‘I am Jesus (Isa). Come to me. I am the way to heaven. Follow me and you shall be saved from hell.’”  Read the rest of the story here.

By Asad,      Asad was told by one of his university professors, “Don’t waste your time kissing the floor. The whole Islam is a scam. It is a mad-man ideology of hate. Quran is nothing but a book of baloney."

“Then I told myself that I have to save this man from hell. I thought if I understand Islam deeply, I would be able to explain to him the truth of Islam. I bought a Quran translation by Yusuf Ali and a translation of Sahih Bukhari. That was the turning point in my life. The more I read the Quran; the more realized that the book cannot be from God. The verse on slavery finally broke the shell. I am free now. Free from fear. A religion should give mankind a reason to live yet Islam gives reasons to die” Read the rest of the story here.

By Meher Ali Khan,     “I started questioning if I wanted to copy-cat Prophet Muhammad who, I believed, was the most perfect man for all times for 40 years of my life. I started questioning if I want to be an ideal man and have 10-15 wives, a few concubines and wage numerous wars against the idolaters, Jews and Christians”    Read the rest of the story here.

By Ayesha Ahmed,     “Although I had my doubts since I was in my teens about the divinity of islamic teachings, the straw that broke camel's back was reading about what is really in Quran and what Mohammed did in his Madina stay through websites like faithfreedom.org and books by Ibn Warraq and Anwar Shaikh. Particularly disgusting were his massacre of all Quraiza tribe's men and taking beautiful Rehana, the wife of the tribe leader, to bed the same night and and sex with 17 year old Safia after killing her husband Kinana and his people in Khyber. Other disturbing revelations were mohammed's marriage to 6 year old Ayesha, his sleeping with slave girls and concubines, his asassinations of his critics, Quran's declaration of violence against non-muslims, raping of captive women and slaves & looting of non muslims as pious act worthy of paradise. That left no doubt in my mind that Islam is not divine, it is a dangerous cult.”    Read the rest of the story here. and a lot of articles written by her.

'More Muslims converted to faith in Jesus Christ over the past decade than at any other time in human history. A spiritual revolution is underway throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia. As a result, a record number of ex-Muslims are celebrating Christmas this year, despite intense persecution, assassinations, and widespread church bombings'. Read the rest of the story here

I am often asked, Why I left Islam? As absurd as it may be, some Muslims cannot even allow themselves to think that leaving Islam is an option, or even possible. They rather think that those who leave Islam are paid Jewish agents than accept the fact that people have freedom to think and some may even think that Islam is not for them. The following are my reasons:   Go here

Concluding remarks: These are only a sampling of the many testimonies on various web sites. One observation that came up is that Islam is the path to atheism for many people. Being deceived by Islam drives the conclusion that all religions are deceptive. Some of the people turn to Christianity, others to Buddhism, or Hinduism, but a fair number turn to atheism. Having been deceived by Islam they will not venture to being deceived twice. Thus the wonderful story of God coming down to reveal Himself in Jesus is not considered by some.
The good news for a Muslim who is seeking the truth is that God has come into human history in the person of Jesus, the Christ. Jesus came to bring deliverance from sin, to declare that God is merciful and seeks to restore people to a living relationship with Himself. Jesus declared, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 ESV) If you want forgiveness, if you want everlasting life, if you want to know God now, you must pay attention to the words of Jesus. There is no other way. Pray to Him asking Him to come into your life.
